Have you heard of the Scanner Price Accuracy Code in Winnipeg? With today’s ridiculous grocery prices and expensive cost of living, you should be aware of it.
It’s a voluntary practice for stores to join, but many stores in Manitoba participate, which is excellent news for you. If the cashier scans an item and it shows a higher price than what it had advertised or displayed, you either get it for free or $10 off the price. If the item costs less than $10, you will get it for free. If the item is over $10, i.e. $15, you will get $10 off and get the item for $5.
The Code applies to all UPC items that are scanned in a store. Unfortunately, products that are measured by weight and do not have a UPC do not fall under this Code.
How Do I Get The Discount Applied?
To get the discount applied, you will have to mention it to the cashier, but don’t be surprised if the cashier is unfamiliar with it. It may be uncomfortable for you, but it is your right, and you need to speak up. I have done this at Sobeys in the past, where the cashier corrected the price, and I had to say, “Shouldn’t it be free?” sure enough, she fixed it and gave the item for free. Remember, these stores volunteered to join the practice; it’s not something they were forced into. Be bold and speak up.
